Even The Devil Has Demons

Even The Devil Has Demons

Date: Fri 16th Feb 2024
Time: 3pm & 7pm
Tickets: Pay-what-you-can (Matinee), £10 (Evening)

Britain’s political elite take a dark, duplicitous trip and dance with their demons.

Following the success of Comrades In The Dark (Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival, Glastonbury 2022) award-winning choreographer Caitlin Barnett returns with Even the Devil has Demons, a new work-in-progress supported by Arts Council England.

Pumping, adrenaline-filled dance and an original, live techno-inspired soundtrack set the scene for either a bad trip or a bad dream. Our political leaders enter a pulsing, rave-like space and shuffle side-by-side with the demons of their past, present and future.

The private boarding schools of Britain have long been considered the training ground for political leadership, but these institutions leave a lasting mark and the damage trickles down.

This dark, psychological show examines the experiences of the privileged elite and its impact on wider society. Even The Devil Has Demons asks: Is this who we want in power? Can the young people of today lead with compassion over cruelty and bring order to chaos?

A post-show dialogue will be held after each show.

“Barnett goes on the list of choreographers along with the likes of Matthew Bourne, whose every new work is automatically a must-see.”
- The Recs UK

“Caitlin has mined something individual out of a melting pot of influences”
Keith Watson, The Metro TV & Dance Critic

“A promising talent”
Donald Huetera, The Times Dance & Arts Writer

It went on to open the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival 2022 in Palestine as part of an international tour that performed in Belfast, Brixton and at the Glastonbury Festival.

In 2019 she was awarded ‘Best Short Performance’ for her work Wovoka’s Prophecy at the International Youth Arts Festival and was commissioned by DanceWest in 2018 as the recipient of the Ignition Elevate bursary.

As a dance artist Caitlin has worked within all areas of the industry. She has performed in immersive theatre, contemporary dance, music videos, commercials, and teaches regularly within a community dance setting.
