Fresh from its five star, award-winning debut, STYX comes to London for a limited run.
When Max Barton’s grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s he began recording interviews with her to preserve a record of her life. Through their conversations he discovered a strange serendipity between songs he had written about the Orpheus and Eurydice myth and a music club founded by his grandparents in the fifties called the Orpheus Club. Weaving together these recordings with the Klezmer-inspired rock songs, STYX reconstructs his grandmother’s memory of meeting her husband for the first time and charts a journey to salvage any remaining traces of the club they founded together.
Alongside her story Second Body present their signature blurring of science and art, dissecting the neuroscience behind memory loss against the backdrop of a mythic tale of turning to look back. Performed with a band of cult alt-rock Australian musicians, STYX brings light to the experience of living and dying with Alzheimer’s and the extraordinary power music has to reignite fading memories.
Awarded a Fringe Weekly Award in Perth and shortlisted for a Total Theatre Award in Edinburgh, this five star production comes to London for three weeks only.
